
Second Step
What is Second Step?
Second Step is a classroom-based social-emotional program used nationwide. This curriculum has two parts: Teaching social-emotional skills and teaching self-regulation skills, which includes self-advocacy, respect, responsibility, calming down, problem solving and much more. There is data which supports the use of the Second Step Program to increase school success and decrease problem behaviors.
Lesson Breakdown:

Warm-up: review last week's lesson and play a game which incorporates all skills used in previous lessons)

Story and discussion: introduce new skill through a story

Skill practice: practice skill through handout/roleplay/partners
