Senior English in the wild!

Mr. Young's senior English class, Exploring Nature, enjoyed a hike in May with Thomas Palmer, local author of "Landscape with Reptile" , a history of the timber rattlesnake of the Blue Hills.

After reading Mr. Palmer's book and researching topics related to the natural history of Milton, the class hiked with Mr. Palmer to the top of Hancock Hill, where he gave them a tour of the landscape, with topics that included reading the forest floor, the geology of the Blue Hills, and the history of the timber rattlesnake.

We have exciting news to share - Tucker student, Juliette Baeyaert-Kelsey in Mme. Frossard's class, is a featured reader on the MPL's Dial-a-Story service during the month of June!

As a reminder, Dial-a-Story is a Milton Public Library service where folks can call 617-915-1915 anytime and listen to librarians read stories, tell jokes, and the like. The content changes monthly, and for a while now they've been including guest readers - usually kids, who read a picture book in the Dial 6 slot.

Juliette is reading Sami à Paris by Isabelle Albertin (in French!), and June stories are posted now (they'll be live all month long). Please give a call and hear Juliette read!

The Tucker Girls on the Run team held a super successful Lemonade Stand last week in support of the Tucker playground project.

Every cup sold was a cup of confidence for these girls - especially as they surpassed their goal and will now be able to leave their mark at Tucker with the purchase of a Tucker Playground Brick. Thanks to the many lemonade sippers and supporters!

On Tuesday, May 26th, about 30 Milton Public School families and their children joined us for our Early Literacy Academic Partnering event, "Playing Your Way to Literacy." It was a fantastic night of learning and fun! Preschool teachers, speech language pathologists, English Language teachers, and occupational therapists partnered with families to share practical, everyday strategies to boost early reading and writing skills.

Families explored five interactive sessions packed with actionable tips and caregiver tools:

- "Talk It Up!" (Oral Language): Learning how verbal storytelling predicts future writing success and practicing the "5-Second Rule" for wait time.

- "Word Hunters" (Vocabulary): Discovering the power of introducing "fancy" words through physical actions.

- "Sound Play" (Phonological Awareness): Clapping out syllables and using nursery rhymes as "pre-reading" workouts.

- "The Daily Literacy Habit" (Home Routines): Making literacy invisible by reading grocery lists and modeling print directionality during bedtime stories.

- Milton Public Library Tools: Unlocking incredible, free digital resources like TumbleBooks, BookFlix, and PebbleGo to turn screen time into literacy time.

Missed out? Don't worry! We will be running this exact session again in the fall for anyone who could not attend. In the meantime, keep an eye on upcoming newsletters where we will be sharing the valuable information, activities, and resources from each session so you can practice at home!

MHS AP Physics students used a trip to the Museum of Science to reflect on all that they have learned this past year. As the group explored the "Walk in the Park" exhibit one student remarked how every topic they had done in class was in one form or another represented in that exhibit. Mr. Shaw shared that the most enjoyable part was seeing the students' curiosity pull them into exhibits that connected to the curriculum they've worked so hard on all year.

In May, over 300 8th graders and 27 staff members went to Washington, D.C. for a class trip.

After flying to Washington, students and staff had three amazing days that included visits to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, National Museum of African American History and Culture, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, White House, Capitol Building, and Arlington National Cemetery. There were also stops at the Marine Corps Memorial, Natural History Museum, and the American History Museum.

While visiting Arlington National Cemetery, students and staff had the honor of participating in the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

There are many members of our school community who deserve recognition for their support of this incredible experience. We are grateful to teacher Jake Smith whose leadership made this trip possible for our students. Additionally, a special thank you goes to assistant principal Janice Mazzola for her work in coordinating the trip details and itinerary, as well as to our staff members who attended the trip. Finally, we thank the Pierce PTO and our entire community, who made donations to ensure that every 8th grade student who wanted to attend the trip was able to.
