"On Friday, May 1, members of the school newspaper, "The Elephant in the Room," attended the New England Scholastic Press's annual conference at Boston University. Student reporters, editors, photographers, and social media managers went to various workshops and seminars led by talented professionals in the world of journalism.  Three students won special achievement awards for their submissions to the annual contest:  Griffin Angus won honorable mention for his article "Burrows Bails Amid Financial Fiasco, Phelan to Fill in"; Layla Raymond won third place for her graphic design "Out of Service"; and Adam Cheairs won fifth place for his article "The Town that Turned Toward the Sun."  "Elephant in the Room" is a monthly publication with a loyal staff of about 15 students. That they earned these top awards against schools, with staff sizes of 80 to 100, speaks to their intelligence, work ethic, ethical judgement, and desire to find original stories with good angles on the truth. Elephant in the Room is always looking for hard-working student writers and creators. We meet Wednesday mornings in room 212, around 7:00 am."
