Celebrating the US Constitution!

MPS students celebrated the 238th anniversary of the creation of the US Constitution in their history classes on September 17, when schools across the nation celebrate Constitution Day.

A wide variety of lessons challenged students to critically think about the tenets of our founding document, including analysis of the Bill of Rights, the concept of separation of powers and the connections between our constitution and the ideals of the Enlightenment and human rights.

In Ms. Dann's seventh grade class students studied the Preamble as they began to create their own Student Bill of Rights, and in MHS US History classes students considered if the Constitution has stood the "test of time" in our current society. In Ms. Kelley's MHS classes students tested their knowledge of the constitution.

Try your hand at testing your own knowledge at this site: https://www.constitutionfacts.com/?page=50QTest5.cfm

Ms. Bernini's Collicot Art students practiced contour line drawing, a skill that requires slowing down one's drawing and really looking at all the details in the object at hand. It takes a lot of patience, focus, and risk taking since students were drawing with Sharpies.

Students were asked to deeply observe various art room supplies. Upon choosing an item, students allowed their hand to draw everything their eyes saw. They had to look slowly and draw slowly. Students were hyper focused to capture all the details and the results are magnificent!

To access your child's schedule on the PowerSchool website go to My Schedule on the left menu and select Matrix View and to access from the app go to Classes. Recess is often a fan favorite for our students and while many like to run, climb, shoot hoops and play ball, sometimes kids prefer quieter activities like chess in the shade. We're happy to see our students enjoying it all!

Big news on the reading front - Tucker student Nova is a featured reader on the MPL's Dial-a-Story service during the month of September!

Nova is reading The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson, and September stories are posted all month long. Be sure to dial in and and hear Nova read!

As a reminder, Dial-a-Story is a Milton Public Library service where folks can call 617-915-1915 anytime and listen to librarians read stories, tell jokes, and the like. The content changes monthly, and for a while now they've been including guest readers - usually kids - who read a picture book in the Dial 6 slot.

While you enjoy the last weekend before school starts (we are READY at MPS!), make like Henry and Vivi and get some summer reading in!

They were lucky enough to take a trip to Jeff Kinney’s book shop, An Unlikely Story AND get some reading done on the beach.
