Earlier in June, over 300 Pierce 8th graders and 27 staff members traveled to Washington, D.C. for their 8th grade trip! After flying to Washington, students and staff enjoyed three amazing days that included visits to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, National Museum of African American History and Culture, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, White House, Capitol Building, and Arlington National Cemetery. There were also stops at the Marine Corps Memorial, Natural History Museum, and the American History Museum. While visiting Arlington National Cemetery, four Pierce students had the honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There are many members of our school community who deserve recognition for their support of this incredible experience. We are grateful to Mr. Jake Smith whose leadership made this trip possible for our students. Additionally, a special thank you goes to Assistant Principal Janice Mazzola for her work in coordinating the trip details and itinerary, as well as to our staff members who attended the trip. Finally, we thank the Pierce PTO and our entire community, who made donations to ensure that every 8th grade student who wanted to attend the trip was able to. You can check out all the DC fun here! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JOq6irWelQHF9HQ6vm7U58E-z_VE33po/view?usp=sharing

That's a wrap on the Pierce Debate Team's successful year! On June 7th, the Pierce Middle School Debate Team participated in the Lumos June Invitational Debate Tournament. Students debated whether or not the National Security Agency (NSA) should end its surveillance of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents. Students used the Public Forum Debate format to discuss the positive and negative consequences of NSA surveillance. Students Jimmy Huang, Eliot Levinson, Freddy Mai, and Benjamin Rosenbaum competed in this tournament. This marks our sixth and final debate tournament for the 2024-2025 season. The Pierce Debate Team looks forward to competing again next fall. Thank you to Mr. Faherty for all of his work with the Debate Team this year!
