Be sure to check out June's featured reader on the MPL's Dial-a-Story - Cunningham's own Charlie Cipolla! Charlie treated his classmates in Ms. McClain's class to a live reading last week. As a reminder, Dial-a-Story is a Milton Public Library service where folks can call 617-915-1915 anytime and listen to librarians read stories, tell jokes, and the like. The content changes monthly and includes guest readers - usually kids - who read a picture book in the Dial 6 slot. Charlie is reading Mother Bruce by Ryan T. Higgins, and June stories are posted now (they'll be live all month long). Please give a call and hear Charlie read his story!

Tucker Elementary School is thrilled to announce the ribbon cutting for their new mural! The mural was created by Boston artist Lee Beard to commemorate Tucker’s 100th anniversary and celebrate Tucker’s abundant future . The public mural installed on the back facade of the school building was conceptualized by Tucker students guided by Beard who facilitated an artist residency in collaboration with Tucker Visual Arts teacher Jess Gillooly. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held as part of the school’s Spring Fair, which is an annual fundraiser for Tucker PTO and a time to celebrate the school community. This will take place on Saturday, June 7, 3-6pm. Admission is $10 per person and the ribbon cutting will take place at 4:30PM. All are welcome and we look forward to seeing you there!

The collaborative Open Mic/Slam Poetry event at MHS earlier this month was a major success! One student reflected, "I thoroughly enjoyed attending the Open Mic Poetry Night. It was my first time experiencing slam poetry live, and it exceeded my expectations. I love the concept of anyone being able to step up and share, whether through a story, poem, or song. It was exciting to see how much room there was for creative expression and variety. The community was incredibly supportive and welcoming, which made it feel even more special." The three-hour evening featured fantastic student performances and delicious snacks courtesy of Culinary Club. Poetry Club advisor Mr. Cunningham and President August Alvarova extend their sincere gratitude to Tech Club (Mr. Collyer), Photography Club (Ms. Chandler-Blood), Culinary Club (Ms. White), The Echo (Mr. Radosta) for their awesome pin sales, and Mr. LoPresti for supplying video equipment. Special thanks also to librarian Ms. Alpert for the use of her space, our amazing custodians Judy Whalen and J.T Redden, and all those who generously donated to make the event possible.

On April 4th, members of the Milton Youth Advocates for Change attended the Norfolk County District Attorney's Peer Leadership Conference at Gillette Stadium with about 150 other students. Drug Story Theater provided the "keynote", which included a play about opioid overdose based on a true story. All of the actors are young people in recovery. Next, there were two breakout sessions for the students. Milton youth all attended a presentation by Minding Your Mind which featured a young woman bravely sharing her struggles with her mental health. The students split up and attended different sessions during the second breakout. The conference wrapped up with leadership awards, lunch and a closing presentation. Thanks to the Milton Police Department and Officer Martin who provided transportation. Pictured back from left to right: Griffin Angus, Emily Vogel, Zakai Perkins, Margaret Carels.
