Thank you to the MHS and Pierce music departments for the beautiful music all through December!

Just before the winter break, our MHS Christmas Carolers entertained Unquity House residents while Advisory students delivered Holiday Treat Bags they made for the residents. The visit closed with a rousing sing-along of "Deck the Halls."
The MHS Students were grateful for the chance to spread holiday cheer! A special 'shout out' to our van drivers, Mr. Mackinaw and Mrs. Spinelli, who made the trip possible.

The Milton High School Robotics team competed at the Ryken Robobowl in Shrewsbury on Sunday December 15. Students have spent the last four months planning, building, coding, and testing their robot for the First Tech Challenge (FTC). Milton made it to the finals and finished 5th of 27 teams! Students will have another competition at Canton High School on February 8 and all are welcome to attend and cheer on our team!

Last week, the MHS Achieve, Launch, and Partner Programs teamed up with the Unified Art and Unified Music classes to go on their annual holiday shopping trip! Students went to the South Shore Plaza to practice budgeting and money skills and worked in groups with their buddies to buy holiday gifts for their family and friends.
And what trip to the Plaza is complete with out a trip to the food court? Our MHS crew ended their trip with a table for 40!

MHS French teachers and students celebrated the week of the Francophonie early in November. Teachers created projects with their students. Each French class was part of a project related to the French-speaking world and their projects are exhibited in the MHS library.
Our students did a great job and you can read the details of the projects here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LF67dm_A2LVTY1WNTL4BUcRdTLSpPogJ/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=111909143798207549360&rtpof=true&sd=true

Congratulations to Scott Longo, Jackson Wagner, and John Dickens, three of our MHS seniors, who recently signed to play athletics at the college level!
Scott will play baseball at Northeastern, Jackson will swim at Lafayette and John will play tennis at Lafayette. We are proud of these talented student-athletes and look forward to hearing about their successes (on and off the field/pool/court!) in the years to come.

Congratulations to our MHS students who have earned High Honors or Honors during the first quarter of the school year. We are proud of their hard work and academic success! Last week Mrs. Driscoll's Tucker 1st graders read "Balloons Over Broadway", which tells the story of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. After reading the book, students took part in a fun STEM challenge!
Our 1st graders planned, designed and built a balloon float using a balloon, tape, popsicle sticks and construction paper. Afterwards, they had their own parade, showcasing bears, Bluey, cats, Spider-Man, Pikachu, Tom Brady, rainbows, hearts and more in their floats. We love their enthusiasm and creativity!

Next up for MPS concerts?

MPS Early Dismissal Times
Thursday, December 5, 2024

Cunningham preschoolers enjoyed their first UNITY Project lesson last week. They read The Skin You Live In written by Michael Tyler and illustrated by David Lee Csicsko. The preschoolers learned that all people's bodies, hair, and skin color, and way of dress are different. All people communicate differently, learn differently, eat different foods, feel different feelings and come from different-looking families. Everyone is different and everyone is unique. The lesson was parent-led, and the preschoolers really enjoyed reading the book then drawing a picture of themselves!
The UNITY Project is a 2024 parent collaboration across Milton's PTOs to revitalize and streamline the previous Reading About Diversity/RAD (2010) and Meet the Artist/MTA (2015) programs. It combines both curricula and expands the program to Preschool through 5th grades with additional books and artists. The UNITY Project invites parents and guardians into the classroom to teach a quick lesson (approximately 45 minutes) with just a little bit of prep work. Take a look at the UNITY Project website (https://sites.google.com/miltonps.org/unityproject/about) for more info about the provided lessons, materials, and how to volunteer at your child's school.

A message from the Milton School Committee
Over the past several years, the Milton School Committee has explored how we can make our district calendar inclusive and more representative of our diverse community. We revised our calendar policy in 2022 to ensure that students celebrating holidays not acknowledged with an official day off would receive necessary accommodations. We are in the process of reviewing our calendar and need your input. We are gathering community input through a survey, a series of open conversations taking place in schools and the November 20 School Committee meeting. We hope all will share their thoughts in one of those ways.
The survey can be found here: https://forms.gle/RmLtV4T6xaFx3k658
