Lizzie Carroll

Lizzy Carroll is a former high school English teacher who has worked in education policy and higher education administration. She is now a Program Director for an education nonprofit organization. Her family moved to Milton in 2017, and her two daughters attend Tucker Elementary School. Lizzy was elected to the School Committee in 2021 and represents Precinct 3 as a Town Meeting Member.

Celina Miranda

Celina Miranda, Ph.D., Vice Chair

Celina is the executive director of Hyde Square Task Force (HSTF), a creative youth development organization located in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. Before joining HSTF in August of 2016, she was a senior program officer at the Richard and Susan Smith Family Foundation, where she managed grants in education and economic mobility. Before the Smith Family Foundation, Celina was vice president and charitable giving manager for BNY Mellon Public Affairs office in New England. Among her accomplishments at BNY Mellon, she is most proud of her leadership role in developing a multi-year initiative focused on youth aging out of foster care. Celina began her career in philanthropy at The Hyams Foundation, where she managed grants and provided leadership on initiatives in the teen development area. Celina is a trustee of the Rutland Corner Foundation and the Franklin Square House Foundation, and a board member of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network.

Occasionally, she is a macro practice lecturer at the Boston University School of Social Work. Celina holds a BA from Smith College in Latin American Literature and Latin American Studies and an MSW and Ed.M. from Boston University. Celina has a doctorate in Social Work and Sociology from Boston University. Her dissertation research looked at the integration of positive youth development in community-based organizations.

Mark Loring

Mark Loring, School Committee Member

Mark currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Brooke Charter School. Before joining Brooke, Mr. Loring worked in a variety of educational roles across the country, including conducting his student teaching in a high school in rural North Carolina, as a 4th grade teacher in Tallulah, Louisiana, as a homeschool teacher in Redmond, Washington, and as a Dean of Operations at a turnaround school in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Mark received an undergraduate degree in History and Secondary Education from Appalachian State University and a Master's degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education in Education Policy and Management. Mark is an alumni of Teach for America and he currently serves as a Vice Chair of the Boston Charter Alliance and as a charter representative of the Boston Compact.

Bao Qiu

Bao is a career educator, a long-time Milton resident, and a proud mother of two Cunningham students. She is also a Town Meeting Member for Precinct 8.  

As a first-generation immigrant from China, Bao is proud to have received her education from the Boston Public Schools and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Throughout her career, she has held multiple roles, including teacher, mentor, advisor, trip leader, curriculum developer, and program director, which have equipped her with a broad range of skills and experience to effectively identify, understand, and support students’ needs.

 As a mother of two children in our public schools and a long-time career educator, it is Bao’s mission to ensure that every student in our community receives the support and guidance they need to achieve their full potential.

Amanda Serio

Amanda Serio, School Committee Member

Amanda has lived in Milton with her husband Steve since 2004, and she is the proud parent of 3 boys, all of whom attended Milton public schools.

After working in the field of marketing for 20 years, Amanda used her personal experience as a special education parent to become an advocate for students with disabilities. She is a co-founder of Milton Sports for All, an inclusive recreation league for Milton school aged children; a former co-chair and board member of the Milton Special Education Parents Advisory Council (SEPAC); a former member of the Warrant Committee; and she serves as a Town Meeting Member representing Precinct 5.

Ana Varghese

Anna has lived in Milton with her husband, John, since 2007. Her educational background is in Communication and Information Design. She is the Creative Director of an experiential marketing agency.

Anna has been serving on the Milton School Committee since April of 2022. She is also mom to two middle school aged daughters and serves as a Town Meeting Member in Precinct 4.
