The recent street hockey fundraiser to benefit MHS Girls and Boys Hockey was a big success! MHS players acted as coaches, refs and cheerleaders for the young players. Despite the rain, it was a really fun day!

Shoutout to our Collicot 5th Graders who raised an additional $233.82 at their Social last week, to add to Collicot’s Glow Gold contribution! As Milton Glows Gold wraps up, we'll be excited to share the total raised from Jumping Jacks, generous sponsors and so many thoughtful kids who held lemonade stands, cookie sales and events like the Collicot Social.

Collicot’s first art projects of the year have come together beautifully! 2nd grade artists created artwork inspired by Olympic events. Students created their own figure by gluing down upcycled cardstock which is called a collagraph. Students then made a print or rubbing from their design and layered the prints on top of a background of concentric circles.

Our 7th graders are learning about seasonal changes on Earth. As part of the curriculum, the 7th grade science team created a modeling seasons activity. And to make it even more exciting, they use black out curtains and flashlights to help them really understand this big concept. Check out Ms. Mitchell's 7th graders in action!

The MHS Girls Cross Country team has had a successful start to the season with improvement from every runner on the team and a great show of teamwork! That hard work has led to many recent successes: The team won the Bay State Invitational Varsity A Race on September 28 and on Wednesday, October 9 , they beat both Brookline and Natick in a tri-conference meet. Their conference record is 4-4, with all 4 losses to very competitive top 10 D1 teams. Still plenty of season to come and we can't wait to see what comes next for Girls XC!

Students in AP African American Studies recently demonstrated their understanding of African history by creating African ceremonial masks. The course is designed to teach students about history, literature and the arts so students used their understanding of civilizations like Zimbabwe, Mali, Songhai, Ghana and Kilwa and others to create their masks. African masks are an important ritual in many of Africa's historical civilizations, as they were used in ceremonies and celebrations such as weddings and royal gatherings. Different African nations celebrated their culture through their masks, and they have become part of their history, similar to the traditional wardrobes worn by many other civilizations throughout world history. Enjoy these pictures of our talented students and their beautiful masks!

Pierce 7th grade science classes worked together to measure the Sun's angle in the sky and look at features on the Sun's surface with a hydrogen-alpha solar telescope. Everyone had a great time enjoying the beautiful fall weather, getting a chance to collect data and using sophisticated science equipment.

Mrs. Grout's Cunningham kindergarteners enjoyed the book, "The Dot" by local author Peter Reynolds this week. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing. We look forward to seeing the many marks these members of Class of 2037 will make in their time at MPS!
